What is a Golf Iron assembled from - the four fundamental characteristics.

Club Head

Two primary types of club head types, cavity back perimeter weighted and traditional blades. Perimeter weighted golf irons are more forgiving. The factor of forgiveness is the capacity to make the ball move left and right. Most mid to high handicap golfers use the perimeter weighted irons.

Forged golf irons or solid blade have small club head and a significantly smaller sweet spot in which to get a solid hit on the ball. The benefit of this is that you can hit any kind of shot with a blade style club and when you strike it in the dead center of the sweet spot it hardly feels like you have hit the ball. It's a clean hit. Low handicap and pro golfers generally use these types of golf clubs.

Grip

Grips are important and why else would they not be, they allow you to firmly take hold of the golf iron. A few grips use spaceage polymers to supply the a soft feel, almost forming to your hands. Some grips tend to be coarse with weaved twine materials. Big grips tend to be best for individuals with large hands or arthritis. Having the proper golf clubs will allow you to obtain lower golf scores and thus making the game more enjoyable.

Golf Shaft Flexibility

Golf iron shafts are available in four basic ones - regular, stiff, senior and ladies. A local golf or pro shop may be able to determine the speed in your swing to recommend a shaft flex suitable for your swing. The Flex is the bend or foregiveness. The length is also a factor, the longer the club, the more flexibility it tends to have.

Shaft Materials

The two most common types of shafts are graphite and steel. Long ago shafts used to constructed from wood, which nowadays are vintage golf clubs. You can find other unique materials made from metals and micro fibers but mostly we use graphite and steel. Graphite golf shafts possess a softer feel than the steel types and do not have as much vibration in the swing. Steel golf shafts are more durable but may rust if not cared for. These shafts also have more vibration or kick when striking the ball.

This information should also serve as the basics in case you want to asseble your own golf irons or have them customized.
