Make it much more than just a means of an easy commute for laid back people that don't like to lug around their golf bags over their shoulder or with a pull cart.
For those laid back retirement communites, second homes or housing developments, golf carts have been conformed into personal vehicles. They drive them to the beach, quick trips to the store, the park, or to the neighbors. We have a few in our neighborhood and even the public works (electric, water, etc.) employees drive them around town here in southern Florida. First off, it won't cost a bundle, you can do simple jobs, like painting or seat covers that won't be expensive. It adds color. But if you want to transform it into a Hummer or Monster Truck, that may set you back a few thousand depending on the customizations. Custom wheels and overly sized tires can run up to a few thousand dollars.
Search online for cheap golf cart parts or custom golf carts. A custom golf cart might cost twice as much as a regular golf cart, but the work is already done for you. On average, you can expect to pay under $4,000 for a custom golf cart.
When looking for the ways to customize you golf cart, consider the amount you spend for the parts. It's natural to always look at the cost, but is it really worth it. If you buy a used golf cart, consider that you may need a new battery, tires, wheels, seats, brakes or other repairs. Then consider what it will cost for you to buy one that is already pimped out. Sometimes, it's just fun to build you own. Plus, you might come up with an idea or feature that someone else doesn't have to make yours unique.
Here a few things you can do to make it unique:
European ash tray
Electric Cooler
Half doors
Fog Lights
Brush Guard
Mud Tires
Street Tires
Spoked wheels
Flag
Spoiler - Air dam
You might also qualify for a tax rebate because it's an electrical vehicle. Check with irs.gov to see if it qualifies, there have been stimulus packages that assist with up to $5,000 for purchasing electric vehicles. Some golf carts may qualify.
Remember - Always be safe. Golf carts aren't meant to be street legal and pimped out golf carts that are modified to travel at high speeds is dangerous.
